About

Paul in Florence

My name is Paul Roland Lambert.

After the rock star route didn’t pan out in high school, I moved to Vancouver to be an artsy. That went a little better, after a couple great years studying grammar and phenomenological philosophy, I graduated from UBC in 2006 with a double major in English and Anthropology.

Post-graduation I meandered a bit before heading west, to China, to seek to my fortune (read the rest of the story). Just when my spoken Mandarin Chinese was finally getting pretty decent, I returned to my home continent and did a program at NYU in publishing. There I learned that a) I didn’t want to work in the low-paying super-hierarchical world of print publishing and b) All the work that I did want to do was in technology.

So I went back to school and started UBC’s Bachelor of Computer Science program in Fall 2007. It has been fantastic. At time of writing (December ‘09), I have just finished my degree requirements and am tying it all up by taking two more courses (Operating Systems and Networking), taking part in UCOSP as part of the Mercurial team, and working on my startup, Matygo. I’ll graduate in May 2010.
